When to take Pregnancy Announcement photos?

Pregnancy announcement photos have become a huge trend over the last few years, and I am here for it! They are a super cute addition or even alternative to maternity photos. I have a lot of mamas who choose to do them early, and also do maternity photos, and then I have some that wait until about 20 weeks when they have a little belly, and do them as announcement/maternity photos combined! So when is the best time to do them? The answer is, whenever you plan to announce your pregnancy! There is no right or wrong answer. But here are a few things to consider when deciding!

1. Consider your energy levels in the first trimester

Let’s be real, the first trimester is rough! Fatigue, nausea, hormone changes. The last thing on our minds most of the time is taking pregnancy announcement photos. I totally get it. Around 12-14 weeks is usually when a lot of moms start to regain their energy as the second trimester approaches.

2. When you start to show

A lot of mamas start to show slightly as the first trimester ends. If you plan to also do maternity photos, I definitely recommend doing the pregnancy announcement photos earlier than later. Around 14 weeks is a sweet spot for having the perfect little bump to make an appearance in photos.

3. The safe zone: ending of the first trimester

A lot of parents choose to wait and announce their pregnancies until after the risk of miscarriage goes down by the 12th week. Sometimes this makes parents wait even longer to announce, and choose to do pregnancy announcement photos and maternity photos combined around 20 weeks. I have a lot of mamas choose this option and I think it is the perfect way to keep a fun secret, and surprise your friends and family on social media. There is just enough belly showing to make great maternity photos as well.

4. Seasonal and Holiday

If you love a good seasonal or holiday theme like the pumpkin patch, or a Christmas announcement, you can consider planning around those weeks to have your photos done!

5. When you have the right vision

Having a vision for your session is so unique, and makes your session authentic to you.
